Belgium directs 9 mln euros to Ukraine for its energy infrastructure via UNDP
MOSCOW. July 31 (Interfax) - The government of Belgium and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed a financial agreement worth nine million euros which will be directed towards repairs of the damaged energy infrastructure.
"This investment from Belgium is a crucial step towards revitalizing Ukraine's energy sector and strengthening its resilience. Together, we aim to ensure that the people of Ukraine have access to reliable energy, which is essential for recovering from this crisis and building a sustainable future," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Jaco Cilliers, the UNDP's permanent representative in Ukraine, as saying in the UNDP's statement.
According to the statement, the partnership's efforts will be focused on resolving energy issues in Kiev, Kharkov and Odessa. For instance, backup generation systems will be deployed and the local energy infrastructure will be improved to facilitate the population's access to heating, electricity and clean water and reduce the dependency on traditional fossil fuels.
