UN's agricultural agency provided Ukrainian food producers with power generator sets
MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax) - The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry provided 17 electric power generator sets of 27 kilowatt to 88 kilowatt among food producers in Ukrainian regions, Ukrainian media said citing the press service of the country's food ministry.
The generator sets were provided with Germany's Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture provided its financial support. In particular, portable power supply sources were given to food producers in the Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolayev, Sumy, and Kharkov regions.
"Food production is a continuous process. Pauses are breaks are not possible, because it affects the quality of food," FAO Ukraine Humanitarian Cash and Voucher Assistance Team Leader Mauro Minetti said.
First Secretary and Agricultural Advisor at the German Embassy in Ukraine Ansgar Ashfalk said that Germany would continue supporting Ukraine in the development and restoration of its agricultural sector.
FAO received 395 applications in total from food producers and processers needing additional electricity source in nine regions of Ukraine.
A total of 245 generator sets with the capacity of up to 440 kilowatt will be granted to small and medium-size enterprises in Ukraine as part of a broader initiative of FAO, the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry and the German government. At the moment, 114 generator were already provided to enterprises, while another 131 generators will be distributed in the coming weeks. In particular, enterprises operating in livestock farming and production and processing of basic food items such as bread, meat and milk will receive them.
