Ukrgazvydobuvannya commissions new well with daily flow of 274, 000 cubic meters of gas

MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax) - The Naftogaz Group's Ukrgazvydobuvannya (UGV) has commissioned a new high-yield well with a daily flow rate of 274,000 cubic meters of gas, Ukrainian media reported, quoting the company's website.

Unusually, the well's planned bottom hole is located directly under a populated area.

"The new well has increased daily gas production at the field by 17%. Another will be commissioned in August of this year," said Alexei Chernyshov, head of the Naftogaz Group.

Andrei Tiro of the Ukrainian Research Institute for Natural Gases came up with the idea of drilling the well. He assessed the production capabilities of the field and found a remote site for it. The development team carried out a detailed geological and engineering study and recommended that the well be drilled.

"It was possible to drill a well under the settlement thanks to modern drilling equipment, advanced technologies and the skill of Ukrburgaz specialists, who accomplished a fairly complex task and drilled a well with a bottom hole displacement of more than 1,300 meters in four months," UGV chief Sergei Lagno said.

Ukrgazpromgeofizyka specialists performed complex logging work in conditions of a large wellbore angle and determined the depth of gas-bearing formations.

UGV drilled 50 wells in H1 2024, putting 41 into operation.

UGV commissioned 86 new wells, 24 of them with an initial daily flow rate of more than 100,000 cubic meters, in 2023. It commissioned 36 new gas wells, 11 of them high-yield, in January-May 2024.

UGV's commercial gas production fell 3% to 12.5 billion cubic meters in 2022. UGV produced 13.224 bcm of saleable gas in 2023, up 679 mcm from 2022.

Commercial gas production rose 8.8% year-on-year in H1 2024 to 6.913 bcm.

Naftogaz owns 100% of UGV.
