India interested in increasing buffalo meat supplies to Russia - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax) - Russia and India have the potential to increase bilateral trade in agricultural products, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said in a press release.

Rosselkhoznadzor said that the service's head Sergei Dankvert and the secretary of the department of trade of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, Sunil Barthwal, discussed the prospects for its implementation Thursday in Moscow.

The parties specifically discussed mutually supplying fish products, as well as importing buffalo meat to Russia from India.

The statement indicates that Barthwal expressed interest in increasing the volumes of buffalo meat supplied.

Dankvert in turn expressed concern about the lengthy approval by the Indian side of veterinary certificates for the export of fish products to India from Russia, and he confirmed the readiness to conduct inspections of Indian fish enterprises interested in deliveries to Russia. Meantime, Dankvert explained that including these companies in the register of suppliers to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries is possible only after the relevant inspection.

The parties concluded by noting the need to establish effective communication between the relative authorities of the countries and provide an impetus for mutual trade.
