Russian shrimp imports from Vietnam surge 330% in Jan-May

MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax) - Russia imported 14,000 tonnes of shrimp from Vietnam in the first five months of 2024, 330% more than in the same period of last year, the analytical center of the Fish Union reported, citing Vietnam's General Department of Customs.

Russia's overall imports of fish and other seafood from Vietnam doubled year-on-year to $96 million in the first half of 2024. As a result, Vietnam became one of the five largest suppliers of these products to Russia, accounting for about 10% of imports by volume and 11% by value.

The key reason for the increase in shipments was the successful resolution of logistical issues, Vietnamese exporters said. Russian transport companies opened direct routes between Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong and Vladivostok, the center reported the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers as saying. A number of shipping lines launched new routes, which is helping to ship goods faster, and settlements in national currencies are growing.
