Turkey intensifies extradition of individuals wanted by Russian law enforcement agencies - Russian prosecutor general
BISHKEK. July 24 (Interfax) - Turkey has notably intensified transfers of individuals wanted by Russian law enforcement agencies, Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said while meeting with General Prosecutor of the Turkish Supreme Court of Appeal Muhsin Senturk in Bishkek.
"Russian and Turkish law enforcement agencies have established productive working relations," he said.
"It is in large part owing to personal contacts at the high level that Turkey has begun actively extraditing persons wanted under warrants from Russian law enforcement agencies. I fully share this practice-oriented and non-politicized approach, which highlights our commitment to the principle of the unavoidability of punishment for criminals," Krasnov said.
He congratulated Senturk on his appointment to his office and pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have raised relations between the two countries to a high level.
Krasnov praised the similarity between Russia's and Turkey's approaches toward opposing extremist and terrorist threats, the spread of terrorist and extremist ideologies, and other dangerous crimes, including those committed with the use of information and communication technology.
"Practice shows that the effectiveness of curbing these criminal manifestations grows significantly if multiple countries consolidate their efforts towards this," he said.
Krasnov said he was sure that the meeting with Turkish officials was an important step on a path towards stronger cooperation and that the two countries would continue working together in other important areas, as well.
In particular, he proposed "providing an extra impetus to signing a memorandum of cooperation between the Russian University of the Prosecutor's Office and the Justice Academy of Turkey and conducting a first exchange of prosecution officials as early as in 2025 to upgrade their skills on the basis of our specialized educational establishments."
Senturk said Turkey has combated terrorist organizations since 1975. "I believe we should develop and support cooperation between our countries, as it would be impossible to implement all security measures without cooperation between our agencies," he said.
"Maintaining stable, warm, and mutually beneficial relations between our countries has become an imperative lately, and we should spare no effort to make sure that our relations develop to the maximum and meet the two countries' interests," Senturk said.
He particularly thanked Russia for warning Turkey of a conspiracy against its political system planned for July 15, 2016.
