China confident about need to settle Ukraine conflict politically
MADRID. July 24 (Interfax) - Beijing will continue to take steps to have the conflict between Russia and Ukraine settled politically, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.
"China will continue to play a constructive role to achieve a ceasefire and resume negotiations," EFE quoted Wang as saying.
Beijing assumes that any dispute should be settled through political means, he said.
"Both Ukraine and Russia have been sending messages on their readiness for negotiations at various levels," Wang said. He admitted, however, that there are no proper conditions for this at the moment.
"In any case, China will support any efforts that would lead to peace," he said.
Wang made his remarks after meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba.
