Sweden to donate 13 backup generators to Ukraine to maintain power supply

MOSCOW. July 23 (Interfax) - The Swedish government has decided to donate 13 Svenska kraftnat backup generators to Ukraine to help maintain the electricity supply in the country.

These are 13 diesel backup generators that were due to be replaced in 2024, according to Svenska kraftnat's maintenance plan, Ukrainian media said, citing the Swedish government's website. The generators will be donated to Ukraine instead of being disposed of or stored at a spare parts warehouse.

"This is a concrete example of how Swedish support will contribute to the hard-pressed energy infrastructure and heat Ukrainian homes this winter," Sweden's Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssel said.

As reported, Sweden announced a new energy assistance package of SEK 650 million for Ukraine in May 2024. This support consists of SEK 500 million through the Energy Community's Ukraine Energy Support Fund and SEK 150 million through the United Nations Development Program.
