U.S. firm Sayar to produce thermal energy from medical waste in $115 mln project in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT. July 22 (Interfax) - U.S. firm Sayar LLC will produce thermal energy from medical waste in a project costing $115 million in Uzbekistan.

"Sayar LLC (USA) has established a foreign enterprise, Sayar Green, as a limited liability company for the investment project "Alternative Heat Generation from Medical Waste," according to a resolution signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, posted in the country's legislative database.

Direct investment in the first phase of the project to process 6,000 tonnes of waste annually at medical institutions in the Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara regions until 2025 will be about $7 million. Capacity of thermal processing units will be 20 GW per year.

The second phase from 2026-2030 involves attracting $108 million in direct investments and increasing annual processing to 90,000 tonnes of waste and capacity to 300 GW per year.

Sayar Green will until 2048 lease land plots on the territory of state medical institutions where the project is being implemented to build installations for the thermal processing of medical waste and generation of thermal energy.

The energy will be purchased at special rates by the medical institutions in which the project is being implemented.

After the completion of the project, the purchased equipment, installations and inventory will be transferred free of charge to partner organizations.
