Ukraine publishes latest cross-border traffic statistics

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - The number of border-crossings in Ukraine increased 2.5% to 691,000 from July 13 to July 20, after dropping 3.5% the week before, Ukrainian media outlets reported, citing data published by the country's State Border Guard on social media.

The number of inbound crossings rose from 343,000 the previous week to 354,000 on July 13-20, the same as the number of outbound crossings, which grew only by 6,000 over the past week, the service said.

The number of vehicles that passed through border checkpoints during the reporting week also increased to 132,000, from 129,000 the week before, and the number of trucks with humanitarian supplies stood at 603, almost the same as the week before.

As to how cross-border flows were spread throughout the week, outbound traffic is traditionally larger just before and during weekends, whereas inbound traffic peaks on weekends and on Monday, it said.

The latest updates from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimated the number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe at 6.021 million and at 6.580 million worldwide on July 15, 2024, which is 24,000 and 25,000, respectively, more than in the previous month.

According to the UN's data for April 2024, the most recent statistics available, there were 3.548 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine at the time, 141,000 fewer than at the beginning of the year.
