EU economic sanctions against Russia extended by 6 months
BRUSSELS. July 22 (Interfax) - The economic sanctions against Russia were extended on Monday by another six months until January 31, 2025, the Council of the European Union said in a statement.
"These sanctions, first introduced in 2014, were significantly expanded since February 2022," and "they currently consist of a broad spectrum of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, technology and dual-use goods, industry, transport and luxury goods," the statement said.
The EU sanctions include a ban on the imports or transportation of crude oil and some petroleum products from Russia to the European Union by sea, the disconnection of some Russian banks from SWIFT, and the suspension of broadcasting some media in the EU, it said. Furthermore, the EU is taking measures to prevent the circumvention of sanctions.
