Ukraine boosts gas reserves in UGS facilities to 10 bcm

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Ukraine has natural gas reserves in underground gas storage (UGS) facilities totaling 10 billion cubic meters as on July 22, Ukrainian media reported, citing a statement from the Naftogaz group.

Ukraine's UGS facilities have received over 2.5 bcm of gas since the beginning of the injection season.

"The rate of intake allows us optimistically to forecast fulfilling the plan, namely 13.2 bcm by November 1," Naftogaz CEO Alexei Chernyshov said in the statement.

As reported, Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the UGS facilities, began the gas injection season on April 1, 2024.

Ukraine began November 2023 with reserves of 16 bcm in the UGS facilities, and the country withdrew 8.5 bcm of natural gas from UGS facilities during the 2023-2024 heating season overall, of which it used 6.7 bcm. The gas withdrawal season lasted 145 days in total.

Ukrtransgaz, which is wholly owned by Naftogaz of Ukraine, operates 10 UGS facilities with total design capacity of around 30 bcm.
