Russian commercial aircraft operating normally, flights on schedule - air transport agency

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Russia's commercial aircraft, airlines, and airports were operating normally as of 11:30 a.m. on Friday, and flights have been carried out chiefly on time, a spokesperson for the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) said when commenting on reports about problems with the operations of global airlines because of a Microsoft Windows malfunction.

"Russian civil aviation organizations started introducing special Russian-developed software in their operations several years ago. The import substitution process in the industry is underway," the spokesperson told journalists.

Global media reported earlier that a major IT outage in Microsoft systems prompted disruptions in the operations of various organizations, including airports and airlines. A number of European airports announced flight delays, and leading U.S. airlines, including American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta, have grounded their planes. Turkey's flag carrier Turkish Airlines has warned of issues with bookings and check-in procedures.
