Azerbaijani president, Czech PM discuss prospects for gas exports to Czech Republic

BAKU. July 19 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala discussed cooperation in the oil and gas sector, among other issues, at a meeting in Oxford on Thursday.

Aliyev and Fiala exchanged views on the prospects for the two countries' cooperation in energy, including in the oil and has sector, a statement published on the Azerbaijani presidential website said.

"It was emphasized in this context that Azerbaijani oil is being supplied to the Czech Republic, and there are also vast prospects for cooperation in the gas sector. It was noted that Azerbaijani gas exports to the Czech Republic's neighboring countries are ensured. Therefore, there are good opportunities for gas shipments to the Czech Republic," the statement said.

Aliyev and Fiala also discussed steps to further expand bilateral trade and economic ties, Czech companies' operations in Azerbaijan, as well as political, economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Fiala also said that he would attend the COP29 conference due to be hosted by Azerbaijan in November 2024.

Azerbaijan currently exports gas to European countries such as Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Serbia. It also plans to start gas exports to Slovakia and Slovenia. Albania will start buying Azerbaijani gas from 2026.
