Former Energy Minister Shulginov might replace Zavalny as chairman of Duma Energy Committee - paper
MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - The State Duma Council will consider a draft resolution on July 22 to dismiss Pavel Zavalny from his position as chairman of the Russian lower house's Energy Committee, business daily Vedomosti reported, citing a source.
The committee might be headed by former Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov, who is running in a Duma by-election in the Khakassky district. Shulginov serviced as energy minister from 2020 to May 2024.
Zavalny, a member of the United Russia party, has headed the Energy Committee since 2015.
Vedomosti also reported that Deputy Speaker of the Duma Sergei Neverov (United Russia) and the chairman of the Duma Sports Committee, Dmitry Svischev (LDPR) might also leave their positions. The paper recalled that former Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko and former Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin are running for the lower house in majority districts.
