Kazakh govt adopts AI Development Concept until 2029

ASTANA. July 16 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's government has adopted a concept for artificial intelligence development until 2029, tasking the Digital Development Ministry with its implementation.

"AI's potential could increase global GDP by 14% by 2030, with up to 70% additional economic impact. The concept aims to increase the number of AI-utilizing products fivefold by 2029. Consequently, the share of educational programs or disciplines related to artificial intelligence should also increase," Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said.

Digital Development Minister Zhaslan Madiyev said the primary goal of the concept is to create an AI ecosystem, focusing on the widespread adoption of AI technologies across economic sectors and government administration.

"Key initiatives include data collection through Smart Data Ukimet, with 93 databases currently connected and regularly updated," Madiyev said.

Regarding infrastructure, Madiyev outlined plans to deploy a supercomputer in Kazakhstan, construct data processing centers (DPCs), establish a national AI platform, and develop high-speed data transmission lines. He also mentioned ongoing negotiations with international technology firms for DPC construction.

A proposed AI law aims to set ethical standards, regulatory frameworks, operational classifications, state support measures, and standards-aligned with global AI practices.
