Ukraine State Border Guard reveals border-crossing statistics

MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax) - The number of border-crossings in Ukraine dropped by 3.5% to 691,000 during the week July 6-12, after an increase of 45.2% (by 223,000) in late May, Ukrainian media reported, citing data published by the country's State Border Guard on social media.

The number of outbound crossings dropped to 348,000 from 361,000 the previous week; inbound crossings fell to 343,000 (from 355,000), the reports said.

The number of vehicles allowed through border checkpoints during the reporting week also dropped to 129,000, from 131,000 the week before, although the number of trucks with humanitarian supplies rose from 547 to 606.

As to how cross-border flows were spread throughout the week, traditionally inbound crossings peak just before and during weekends, whereas outbound crossings peak on weekends and on Monday, the State Border Guard said.

As of June 13 this year, there were an estimated 5,997,000 Ukrainian refugees in Europe and 6,555,000 worldwide, up 55,000 and 81,000, respectively, on the month before, according to the latest data from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

In Ukraine itself, there were 3,548,000 internally displaced persons, or 141,000 fewer than at the start of 2024, the latest UN data for April said.
