Polish PM pledges to help Ukraine's energy system get through winter
MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - Poland is working to ensure that it can burn Polish coal without paying for emissions, while electricity generated by Polish power plants for European money should be supplied to Ukraine via an energy bridge, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.
"The energy issue is critical. We in Poland are now working on that. Our specialists are discussing how we can directly assist Ukraine's energy supply before the onset of winter," Ukrainian media quoted Tusk as saying at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Poland on Monday.
"We are now working to be able to burn Polish coal, which we have a great deal of today, in a way that we do not have to pay for burning this coal, i.e. for emissions, and send electricity generated by Polish power plants from Polish coal for European money to Ukraine through the existing energy bridge," he said.
"Of course, this will not solve" the energy problem completely, "but can at least partially help Ukraine get through this difficult winter," Tusk said.
