Ukrainian market of new commercial automobiles up 12% in June YoY - association

MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) - The number of new commercial automobiles, including trucks and special-purpose vehicles, registered in Ukraine in June 2024 grew 12% to 1,198 compared to June 2023, which is also 6% more than in May 2024, Ukrainian media reported citing Ukrautoprom, the national association of motor vehicle manufacturers, as saying on its social account.

In terms of automobile brands, Citroen topped the list with 291 automobiles sold in Ukraine in June 2024, edging out Renault with 223 vehicles. The top-5 brands of best-selling commercial vehicles in Ukraine also included MAN (143), Scania (79), and Ford (65).

As reported with reference to Ukrautoprom data, 1,068 trucks and special-purpose vehicles were sold in Ukraine in June 2023, up 150% from June 2022. The top-five best-selling brands then included Renault (365), Scania (127), Volkswagen (67), Peugeot (60), and Mercedes-Benz (53).

Over 6,200 new vehicles joined the fleet of trucks and special-purpose vehicles in Ukraine in January-June 2024, which is 20% more than in the same period last year, it said.

The AUTO-Consulting news and analytical group has said the Ukrainian market of trucks weighing over 3.5 tonnes has grown 7.5%.

"This is a good message. The market of business trucks and utility vehicles is still growing," AUTO-Consulting said in a statement on its website.

MAN led the list in June with 17% of customers giving preference to this brand, followed by Scania (16.7%) and Peugeot.

Sales in the medium-lift segment have been growing owing to Hyundai, Isuzu, and Foton, while Scania led the segment of heavy trucks weighing over 16 tonnes, chosen by nearly one-third of customers, it said.

"The outcomes of the first six months are also encouraging. Customers purchased a total of around 2,400 trucks, which was 5.8% more than last year," it said.

As reported with reference to Ukrautoprom, registrations of new commercial vehicles in Ukraine grew 65% in 2023 to 11,300 compared to 2022. According to AUTO-Consulting, the market of trucks weighing over 3,500 tonnes grew 56.5% to 4,853.
