Ukrainian Railways transports 35.122 mln tonnes of grain in 2023-2024 MY

MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) - JSC Ukrainian Railways transported 35.122 million tonnes of grain in the 2023-2024 marketing year (MY), which was the highest result over the past four years, Ukrainian media cited deputy director of the company's transportation technology and commercial operations department Valery Tkachev as saying with agrarian market participants on Thursday.

A total of 3.48 million tonnes of grain were transported by rail on all routes in June 2024, which is a third more than in the same month the year before, Tkachev said.

Grain transportation by Ukrainian Railways increased 30% to 21.85 million tonnes in January-June 2024 year-on-year.

Grain exports by rail totaled 2.558 million tonnes in June, and rose 43% to 18.731 million tonnes in the first half of 2024 year-on-year.

Exports of vegetable oil, oil cake and meals by rail also increased. Thus, 954,000 tonnes of vegetable oil were transported by rail in January-June 2024, which is 30% more than over the same period in 2023. Oil cake and meals traffic went up 19% to 1.41 million tonnes in the first half of 2024 year-on-year, Tkachev said.
