Tajikistan interested in attracting Swiss capital, advanced technology to its economy - president

DUSHANBE. July 2 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) Ignazio Cassis, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Finance (FDF) Karin Keller-Sutter, and Swiss National Bank Chairman Thomas Jordan to discuss cooperation between the two countries, the Tajik presidential press service said.

"We view the Swiss Confederation as our reliable partner on the international arena, and your country occupies a special place in Tajikistan's foreign policy," the press service quoted Rahmon as saying at the start of the meeting.

The parties agreed that promoting bilateral ties would be mutually beneficial in areas such as politics, inter-parliamentary cooperation, economy, and agriculture. They welcomed attracting capital and advanced technology from Switzerland to the Tajik hydro-engineering sector, its light, food, and pharmaceutical industries, the extraction and processing of natural resources, and economy digitalization, it said.

They exchanged opinions on possible mutually beneficial cooperation in other areas, such as tourism, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, science, and education. They also discussed collaboration in opposing terrorism, extremism, radicalism, and trans-boundary organized crime, including illegal drug trafficking and cybercrime, it said.
