Two Meteor-M satellites to be launched by end of 2030 - Roscosmos
MOSCOW. June 28 (Interfax) - Two Meteor-M weather satellites will be launched by the end of 2030, deputy head of the Roscosmos navigation satellite department Valery Zaichko said.
"We are planning to launch at least two more [Meteor-M] satellites, as envisaged by the program of hydro-meteorological service development in the period until 2030," Zaichko said at a meeting of the interagency commission for the use of space industry products on Friday.
Head of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Igor Shumakov said on February 29 that Russia will stop using data from foreign weather satellites by the end of 2024. Data flow from Western satellites has almost stopped, however, the lack of data has been almost eliminated, he said.
Meteor-M weather satellites monitor the ozone layer thickness and radiation levels in the circumterrestrial space, in addition to sea surface and ice conditions.
