Ukraine bans egg, poultry imports from Australia, 10 U.S. states due to bird flu

MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - Ukraine has temporarily banned imports of eggs, poultry and poultry products from Australia and ten U.S. states due to an avian influenza outbreak, Ukrainian media cited the eastern interregional branch of Ukraine's State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection as saying with reference to the state veterinary inspectors' executive order.

Imports to Ukraine of hatching eggs, poultry and poultry products from Australia and the U.S. states of Iowa, Idaho, California, Minnesota, South Dakota, Kansas, Michigan, Massachusetts, Texas and New Mexico hit by the high pathogenic bird flu virus were banned from June 21, the service said.

Those exempt from the measure are products processed by methods that guarantee the elimination of the pathogen in line with the requirements set by the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's November 16, 2018 decree for the transportation to the customs territory of Ukraine of animal source food, feedstuffs, hay, straw, animal source by-products and products received as a result of their treatment or processing.
