Azerbaijani parliament urges Aliyev to schedule early parliamentary elections

BAKU. June 21 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani parliament adopted an address to President Ilham Aliyev at a plenary meeting on Friday to propose early parliamentary elections.

The address passed by 105 votes, while one member voted against.

The New Azerbaijan ruling party initiated the address.

Azerbaijan is due to hold the next parliamentary elections in early November 2024. However, Baku will host the COP29 climate conference that month. "We believe it would be reasonable to dissolve the parliament and announce early parliamentary elections under these circumstances," ruling party deputy chair Tair Budagov said earlier.
