G7 to decide on use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine in next few weeks - Italian Prime Minister

ROME. June 17 (Interfax) - The G7 countries will address technical issues related to the planned use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Saturday.

"Technical issues will have to be resolved in the coming weeks," the Corriere della Sera newspaper quotes the prime minister as saying.

Speaking about the agreement reached earlier at the summit of G7 leaders on this matter, Meloni noted that the result "was not guaranteed."

Earlier, at the summit of G7 countries in the Italian region of Puglia, the leaders decided to develop a system that would allow for the allocation of loans to help Ukraine. According to the plan, there would be no need for Kiev to return the money, as income from Russia's frozen assets will be used for payment.
