Zelensky meets with Pope

MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has had a meeting with Pope Francis as part of the Group of Seven summit in Italy, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to the Ukrainian presidential press service on Friday.

"Zelensky thanked His Holiness for his prayers for peace in Ukraine, spiritual closeness to our people and humanitarian aid to Ukrainians," the press service said.

The parties discussed the Holy See's role in the establishment of peace for Ukraine, it said.

"We value Vatican's participation in the conference in Switzerland and efforts to bring peace closer," the press quoted Zelensky as saying on social media following the meeting with the Pope.
