Ukrainian steel product market fell 3.6% in 5M, imports met 35% of demand
MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - Ukraine's market for steel products fell 3.6% year-on-year in January-May to 1.361 million tonnes, Ukrainian media quoted the Ukrmetallurgprom association as saying in a press release.
Ukraine imported 472,900 tonnes of steel products or 34.8% of its demand.
Ukraine's steel product output rose 29.6% year-on-year to 2.568 million tonnes. The State Customs Service said 1.68 million tonnes or 65.4% of this was exported.
Semis accounted for 46.8% of this year's exports, compared with 49% a year previously, flat products for 40.3%, compared with 30.8%, and long products for 12.9% compared with 20.3%.
The State Customs Service said the main export markets in 5M 2024 were the EU with 78.8%, other Europe with 6.3% and South America with 5.7%.
Flat products made up 82.1% of the imports, up from 80.5%, and long products 16.1%, down from 18.5%. The imports came mostly from other Europe with 46.9%, the EU with 33.7% and Asia with 18.1%.
The steel product market in Ukraine grew 2.2-fold in 2023 to 3.506 million tonnes with 1.119 million tonnes or 31.9% of it imported.
