Ukraine to send 2,453 tonnes of sunflower oil to Africa
MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - Ukraine will send 2,453.26 tonnes of sunflower oil to five countries of Africa, namely, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Palestine, for the first time as part of the humanitarian food initiative Grain from Ukraine, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to the press service for the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
"We're shipping not just grain, but also corn, peas and now sunflower oil. This oil will be transported in containers from the Greater Odessa ports," Deputy Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Markiyan Dmitrasevich said.
Marianne Ward, acting director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in Ukraine, said that over 200,000 tonnes of agricultural products would be shipped as part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative. Many donor countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden, have already joined the initiative.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is sending humanitarian cargoes as part of Grain from Ukraine in cooperation with WFP.
As reported, over 10 ships carrying over 200,000 tonnes of agricultural products were send to Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, and Palestine as part of the initiative.
