Belarus's MAZ to assemble electric vehicles in Ufa

MINSK. June 14 (Interfax) - Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) plans to open an electric vehicle assembly plant in the special economic zone in Ufa, the capital of the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan, the Belarusian company said.

"Representatives of the Minsk Automobile Plant and Ufa Tram & Trolley Plant held a joint meeting in Ufa with the Development Corporation of the Republic of Bashkortostan, which is prepared to act as a co-investor in the project to open a new assembly line for MAZ electric ground transport (trolleybuses and electric buses) in the special economic zone in the city of Ufa," the statement said.

This "will make it possible to increase production capabilities to a scale that corresponds to the scale of vehicle kit production in Minsk taking into account the launch of a new bus plant in 2025," the company said.

The new assembly line will also enable MAZ to sell electric passenger vehicles in Russia under all programs that are available only to Russian manufacturers.
