G7 leaders reach political agreement on use of profits from frozen Russian assets - Meloni
ROME. June 13 (Interfax) - The attendees of the G7 summit in Apulia have reached political agreement on using profits from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Thursday.
"We have reached political agreement on providing approximately $50 billion in additional financial assistance for Ukraine until the end of the year. We are talking about a system of loans. This will not be a confiscation [of the Russian assets], we are talking about using profits from the assets," Meloni was quoted by the Corriere Della Sera newspaper as saying.
A similar announcement was made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"The G7 has agreed to provide Ukraine with loans worth around $50 billion by end of year. We'll use the windfall profits from Russia's sovereign assets to repay them," von der Leyen said on X.
