World Bank to provide $62 mln grant to help solve housing problems in Ukraine

MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - The World Bank plans to provide a donor grant of $62 million to Ukraine to help it solve housing problems, World Bank Vice President of the Europe and Central Asian Region Antonella Bassani said.

"We have mobilized an additional $62 million thanks to many donors and are planning to sign a grant agreement with the Ukrainian government here in Berlin," Ukrainian media quoted Bassani as saying at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2024) in Berlin on Tuesday.

The World Bank continues to support the Housing Repair for People's Empowerment (HOPE) project, she said. Current financing helps provide support to 50,000 families in repairing their homes, and their number will be increased by 50,000 more by December 2024, she said. Apartment buildings are currently under repair in five Ukrainian regions.

In addition, the World Bank, acting under a memorandum earlier signed with the Ukrainian government, will help encourage private banks to provide loans to the housing market, Bassani said.
