EBRD allocates 65 mln euros for Nikolayev, Lutsk, Kharkov to address water, heat supply needs

MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide 65 million euros in loan financing to address the problems of water supply in Nikolayev and heat supply in Kharkov and Lutsk, under agreements signed on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2024) in Berlin, Ukrainian media reported.

"This concerns restoring water supply pipelines eroded by salty water, which we're using now. Nikolayev hasn't had drinking water for nearly two and a half years, and the water that we supply has a high concentration of salt, and therefore, it erodes pipes," Nikolayev Mayor Alexander Senkevich said explaining the project's importance for the city.

Nikolayev has received additional financing from Denmark along with the grant part of the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and loan financing from the EBRD, he said.

Upon completing all the necessary formalities in the near future, the city will begin replacing its water supply network with plastic pipes, or in the case of wider-diameter ones, with cast-iron or other types of pipes, Senkevich said.
