Inter RAO expects to sign contracts for two power plants in Kazakhstan this year

MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - Inter RAO plans to sign contracts for the design of two combined heat-and-power plants in Kazakhstan this year and another one next year, the Russian energy company's press service told reporters, citing Inter RAO Export CEO Maxim Sergeyev.

"Discussions with the Kazakh side on the fundamental terms of the contracts to develop the design and cost estimate documentation for projects to build three CHP plants (in the cities of Kokshetau, Semey and Ust-Kamenogorsk) are now at the final stage. We expect to sign the contracts for the design of the Kokshetau CHPP and Semey CHPP in 2024 and the Ust-Kamenogorsk CHPP in 2025," Sergeyev said.

After the contracts are signed, preparatory geodesic and engineering survey work will begin in 2024 at the construction site of the Kokshetau plant, he said. The active phase of plant construction will begin after the design and cost estimate documentation undergoes the necessary reviews and approval is received from the relevant Kazakh authorities.

Inter RAO Export's role in the projects will be that of project manager and general contractor who will engage contract organizations for the main types of work, Sergeyev said.

Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry said earlier that it expected the construction of three thermal power plants with Russia's involvement to begin in 2024-2035. The ministry said Kazakhstan planned to sign a memorandum with Inter RAO Export for the construction of combined heat-and-power plants that will be located in the cities of Kokshetau (capacity of 240 MW), Semey (360 MW) and Ust-Kamenogorsk (360 MW).
