Astana to host 2028 World Petroleum Congress
ASTANA. June 7 (Interfax) - The World Petroleum Congress (WPC Energy) is set to take place in 2028 in Astana, Kazakhstan, the Kazenergy press office said.
The Kazakhstan national committee of WPC Energy, represented by Kazenergy, met with the World Petroleum Council leadership in London.
"They discussed bilateral cooperation, including technical support, scientific research, and personnel training. A memorandum was signed to confirm Astana as the host for the 26th WPC Energy Congress in 2028," the press office said.
Astana's application was unanimously supported by representatives from 57 countries, which account for 96% of global oil and gas production and consumption.
"The event is expected to boost Kazakhstan's economy, improve its business climate, attract investments, and introduce the latest technologies in the oil and gas industry. It will also enhance expert communications, experience exchange, and professional training within the industry and bring in new investment partners," according to the Kazenergy press service.
The congress will be financed through international sponsorships, delegate fees, and exhibition space sales. Profits will be allocated to charitable causes, such as creating an Oil Museum in Atyrau or establishing educational grants for Kazakh students in technical universities.
The WPC Energy Congress is as a major platform for discussing global energy and oil issues, featuring participation from heads of state, corporate leaders, government agencies, NGOs, international organizations, and leading experts. Previous congresses have been held in various countries, including the UK, USA, Norway, China, Brazil, Spain, Qatar, Russia, Turkey, and Canada. The 2026 Congress will be in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
