European Commission positively assesses Kiev's compliance with terms of EU accession talks

MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - The European Commission has informed EU permanent representatives about its positive assessment of Ukraine's compliance with the terms of EU accession talks, Ukrainian media said, citing a senior European diplomat familiar with progress of a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) on Friday.

He said the commission briefed the representatives on its opinion. "As expected, the commission confirmed that both Ukraine and Moldova had taken every step necessary to begin the negotiations," the source said.

A discussion with member states will follow, the diplomat said. He did not rule out that Hungary might object to the beginning of negotiations under the pretext of the outstanding question of ethnic minorities.
