Ukraine exports 421,800 tonnes of sugar since year's beginning, including 301,000 tonnes to EU

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine has exported 421,800 tonnes of sugar since the beginning of 2024, including 301,000 tonnes to the European Union member states, acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky said at a meeting of the working group on sugar industry development.

"The meeting discussed the compliance with the terms of the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and Ukrtsukor and the implementation of the government decree to establish a zero quota for sugar exports to the EU, which became effective on June 1," Ukrainian media quoted the ministry's press service as saying.

Ukrainian producers have sold 665,000 tonnes of sugar since the memorandum took effect in September 2023, the statement said. At the same time, they have sold only 158,500 tonnes in May this year. Of these, 110,500 tonnes were exported, including 72,000 tonnes to the EU member states.

Over 48,000 tonnes of sugar were sold on the domestic market at an average price of 24.6 UAH per kilogram.

As reported, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and Ukrtsukor signed a memorandum in November 2023, which regulates the volume of sugar exports in the amount of 750,000 tonnes during the marketing year based on the preliminary balance of supply and demand in the 2023-2024 marketing year.
