Emergency power outages applied in Kiev, 15 regions of Ukraine over exceeded consumption limits - Ukrenergo
MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian national power grid operator Ukrenergo applied emergency power outages in 15 regions across Ukraine and the city of Kiev as they considerably exceeded power consumption limits on Tuesday, Ukrainian media reported with reference to Ukrenergo's social post.
Emergency outages were applied in the Zhitomir, Nikolayev, Kiev, Kharkov, Khmelnitsky, Ivano-Frankovsk, Rovno, Zakarpattia, Volyn, Cherkassy, Lvov, Vinnitsa, Ternopol, and Sumy regions and in the city of Kiev, as well as part of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine.
On Wednesday, regional power supply operators urged customers to save electricity in order to keep consumption within the limits and avoid unpredicted and open-ended emergency outages, not to mention special emergency outages, during which even critical infrastructure is cut off from power supply.
Ukrenergo said it requested emergency assistance from Romania's and Poland's energy systems from 10:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, but even this measure did not prevent emergency outages.
Ukraine is also planning to import quite a substantial amount of electricity, 27,044 MWh, from Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova on Wednesday, which is nearly 13% more than it did on Tuesday. This past Monday saw the largest daily volume of electricity, 27,178 MWh, Ukraine has imported in 2024. However, even these amounts of imported electricity are currently not enough to cover power shortage in Ukraine.
