Polish farmers resume protests on Ukrainian border following month-long pause
MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - Polish farmers blocked the Rava Russkaya-Hrebenne checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Polish border to trucks crossing into Poland on Tuesday, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Ukrainian State Border Service.
"The protesters aren't letting trucks departing Ukraine into Poland. They're letting trucks enter Ukraine based on a schedule announced earlier: 12 vehicles in every 12 hours plus four trucks carrying humanitarian aid an hour," it said.
Other types of vehicles are moving in both directions as usual.
The protesters are demanding that the amount of grain crops shipped to Poland from Ukraine be reduced. The protests are to last until June 6.
Polish farmers started blocking a number of routes leading to crossings on the Ukrainian border in February to protest against duty-free shipments of cheap Ukrainian agrifood to Poland and other EU countries, which had a negative effect on local farmers. Under their pressure, Poland imposed unilateral restrictions on imports and transit shipments of a number of agricultural products from Ukraine. Six crossings were blocked at the peak of the protests. The protesting Polish farmers later began gradually unblocking all checkpoints. The Rava Russkaya-Hrebenne crossing was the last one to be unblocked on April 29.
