Many EAEU sectors see growth, decisions should benefit member states - Kyrgyz PM

BISHKEK. June 4 (Interfax) - Decisions adopted within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) ought to be guided by mutual benefit and the specific aspects of socioeconomic development of each EAEU member state, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov said.

"A decision adopted within the EAEU should take into account mutual benefit and the specifics of social-economic development of each state of the union," Japarov said at an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

The EAEU has been moving along its development path in a step-by-step manner, but confidently, he said.

"Industrial production in all countries showed sound dynamics in the first quarter of 2024, growing 105.6% on average across the union, compared to the same period last year. Passenger traffic grew 109.5% and retail trade increased 110.3% over this period. Positive dynamics continues in a large number of other sectors as well," Japarov said.

Given the situation evolving in foreign trade, it is necessary to encourage domestic production and consumption by bolstering measures of support for industrial cooperation between EAEU producers and removing barriers within the union, he said.

"As part of the implementation of a coordinated transport policy, it is advisable to introduce indicators for transport and logistics infrastructure functioning efficiency, such as indicators for the time for crossing border checkpoints between our countries by goods as part of mutual trade. Kyrgyzstan has also proposed specifying the rules for control and inspection procedures during the movement of goods at the union's internal borders and through internal checkpoints by compiling a single list of measures and forms of control," Japarov said.
