Ukrainian Railways boosts cargo transportation 30% in 5M
MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax) - JSC Ukrainian Railways transported 75.4 million tonnes of cargo in January-May 2024, up 30% from the same period last year, Ukrainian media quoted the company's press service as saying.
About half of the total was export cargo, up 57% to 38 million tonnes.
Internal shipments rose 6.7% to 32.9 million tonnes. Import cargo increased almost 70% to 4.3 million tonnes.
Shipments consisted mostly of iron and manganese ore - 19.3 million tonnes, grain cargo - 18.8 million tonnes, coal - 11.5 million tonnes and mineral construction materials - 10.8 million tonnes.
"We are ensuring stable operations and transporting commercial cargo in full. In the five months, we had quite substantial results both for total transportation volumes and exports that are strategic for the country. In particular, we increased grain exports 39% compared to last year. We are ready to continue to meet all the needs of the country's economy and business for transportation," CEO Yevgeny Lyashchenko was quoted as saying.
Ukrainian Railways increased cargo transportation 28.7% year-on-year in January-April 2024 to 59.9 million tonnes, with export cargo rising 48.8% to 30.4 million tonnes.
