Russia to continue acting responsibly on global food market - Mishustin
MINSK. June 3 (Interfax) - Russia will continue to act on the global food market in the most responsible way by providing its partners with everything necessary, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.
"At the most difficult time, both Russia and the [other Eurasian Economic Union, the EAEU] member states have acted very responsibly on the global food market. I am absolutely confident that we'll continue to act this way, and of course, supply all of our friends and colleagues within friendly alliances with everything necessary," Mishustin said in his remarks at a plenary session on food security in the EAEU.
The EAEU member states will also continue to uphold their sovereignty and food security, and "Russia will continue to build up its export capability and act responsibly," Mishustin said.
The geographic location of Russia and the other EAEU countries enables them to ship food and water virtually to any part of the world along optimal routes, Mishustin said. The EAEU countries also possess 10% of all arable land in the world and 10% of global stocks of drinking water, he said.
"We also have an opportunity to supply energy virtually to any spot where we pursue joint investment projects involving food processing," he said.
"We have over 13% of global stocks of wheat, over 16% barley, around 10% of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, and over 40% potassium fertilizers," he said.
Russia and Kazakhstan account for about a third of global production of sunflower oil, as well as around 5% of pasteurized milk and around 6% of raw milk, Mishustin said. "We provide these volumes along with Belarus," he said.
