Former US Secretary of State Pompeo joins VEON board

MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Former US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has joined the board of directors of telecommunications holding VEON , the company said in a statement.

Pompeo is also a member of the board of directors of Kyivstar (part of VEON).

The AGM to discuss the election of the board of directors of the holding took place on May 31.

In addition to Pompeo, ex-chairman of the UK Conservative Party Brendon Lewis and LetterOne senior legal adviser Duncan Perry were elected to the VEON board of directors.

Other directors were re-elected, including VimpelCom co-founder Augie Fabela (he also took the post of chairman of the board), VEON CEO Kaan Terzioglu, LetterOne Technology managing director Andrei Gusev and former KPMG top manager Michel Soting.

VEON's largest shareholder is LetterOne, with 45.5% of the shares. VEON is traded on the NASDAQ and Euronext; the holding itself is registered in the Netherlands.
