Yerevan, Moscow agree to repair railway in northern Armenia - Pashinyan

YEREVAN. May 30 (Interfax) - Yerevan and Moscow have agreed to repair a flood-stricken railway in northern Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"It looks like we have reached an agreement with Russian partners on rebuilding the railway," Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.

"The focus should be on building bridges," which were also destroyed, he said.

In turn, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that negotiations with foreign partners on their involvement in the reconstructions are underway.

"Yet, we need to draft a full list of our needs," Mirzoyan said.

A flood in the Lori and Tavush regions in northern Armenia killed two people, another two are missing, and destroyed many roads, bridges and other infrastructure elements.

The South Caucasus Railways, a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways, operates Armenia's railway system by a concession agreement concluded in 2008. The 30-year agreement can be prolonged for another decade.
