Belarus replaces 8 bcm of gas imports with nuclear plant - Energy Ministry
MINSK. May 28 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) continues to operate at full capacity, with its two generating units now having produced over 30 billion kWh of electricity, the Energy Ministry reported.
"Since the first generating unit was included in the unified energy system [on November 3, 2020], the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant has produced 30 billion kWh of electricity, which made it possible to replace about 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas," the ministry said.
The operation of the plant at full capacity is meeting growing demand for electricity from the real sector of the economy and households, the ministry said. Electricity consumption in Belarus grew by 9.7% to 15.3 billion kWh in the first four months of 2024.
Furthermore, the operation of the BelNPP has made it possible to prevent the emission of about 14 million tonnes of greenhouse gas.
