Ukraine's Energoatom returns second NPP reactor unit to grid after maintenance
MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Energoatom national nuclear power generating company has completed maintenance of a second reactor unit and reconnected it to the grid, Ukrainian media said, citing Energoatom's report on social media on Tuesday.
"An Energoatom reactor unit with 1,000 MW capacity was reconnected to the grid at 3:05 p.m. on May 27, 2024," the company said.
As reported, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on May 16 that the scheduled maintenance and refueling activities were progressing according to schedule at two of the four reactor units at the Rovno NPP and one unit of the South Ukraine NPP.
Energoatom head Pyotr Kotin said that two reactor units would be put back into operation at the end of May and the third one in mid-June. One of the units was reconnected to the grid in the morning on Sunday, May 26.
All other reactor units will gradually be shut down for maintenance and put back into service to ensure that all of them are connected to the grid before October, Kotin said. Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko pledged during a government Q&A session on May 24 that all of Ukraine's nine available NPP reactor units would be operating in the winter.
