Arctic LNG 1 to build cargo terminal at Sabetta port
MOSCOW. May 27 (Interfax) - Arctic LNG 1 LLC, a division of Russian gas producer Novatek , will build an artificial plot of land at the Sabetta port for the construction of a cargo terminal for the Geofizicheskoye field.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order to expand the boundaries of the Sabetta port in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District to include the artificial plot of land, which will adjoin the Gydan Peninsula, the government press service reported on Saturday.
This plot of land will host a remote cargo terminal needed for the development of the nearby Geofizicheskoye oil and gas condensate field, the order said. The new terminal will be able to handle up to 1.6 million tonnes of various types of cargo annually.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2026, by which time the design documentation will be worked out, the press service said.
"To expand the territory of the Sabetta seaport in order to create an artificial plot of land intended for the location of capital structures that are part of the remote cargo terminal of the Geofizicheskoye oil and gas condensate field with capacity of 1.6 million tonnes per year and that are pieces of infrastructure of this seaport (artificial plot of land)," the order said.
Under the order, Arctic LNG 1 will build the artificial plot of land and the Sabetta port infrastructure on it mentioned in the document.
Russian state expert review office Glavgosexpertiza issued a favourable opinion on the construction of production facilities at the Geofizicheskoye field last September. The field, the license to which is held by Arctic LNG 1, was discovered in 1975 on the Gydan Peninsula, on the coast of the Gulf of Ob. It had proven reserves of 200 bcm of gas under the SEC classification as of December 31, 2022.
The latest stage of the field's development includes the construction of ten well pads and gas flow lines that will take the product of the wells to a gas treatment plant.
Novatek planned to build another liquefied natural gas plant with capacity of 19.8 million tonnes per year at Arctic LNG 1, but one of the problems was finding a resource base.
In the summer of 2023, Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson said that the company has a resource base in the southern part of the Gydan Peninsula to supply gas to Murmansk Region for the Murmansk LNG project.
