Ukraine legalizes cannabis use for educational purposes, in scientific, technological activities, production of medicine
MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - The government of Ukraine has added cannabis to the list of plants the circulation of which is permitted for the use for educational purposes, in educational, scientific and technological activities and production of drugs and medications for the further use in medical practice.
A relevant decision was made at a meeting of the government on Friday, Ukrainian media outlets reported with a reference to the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnichuk.
In particular, cannabis, cannabis resin and cannabis extracts and tinctures were excluded from the list of especially dangerous drugs the circulation of which is prohibited, and tetrahydrocannabinol was excluded from the list of dangerous psychotropic substances banned from circulation.
At the same time, cannabis was added to the list of plants containing narcotics and psychotropic substances the circulation of which is permitted for the use for educational purposes, in educational, scientific and technological activities, production of drugs, psychotropic substances and medications for the further use in medical practice.
The aforementioned amendments enter into effect on August 16, 2024, and it was established that the maximum permitted levels of concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol in dried hemp straw for the industrial use would be no more than 0.3% since February 16, 2027, the press reported.
