Ukrainian agrarians sow 96.4% of this year's spring crops - Agrarian Policy Ministry

MOSCOW. May 24 (Interfax) - Ukraine sowed 5.4 million hectares with grains and legumes as of May 23, which amounts to 96.4% of spring crops to be sown this year, Ukrainian media said, citing the press service for the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry on Friday.

Wheat has been sown on 252,500 hectares (versus 249,000 the week before) or 102.6% of the target, in addition to barley on 782,200 hectares (781,600 hectares or 95.6%), peas on 162,500 hectares (162,100 hectares or 101.6%), oats on 163,700 hectares (162,700 hectares or 100.7%), millet on 60,000 hectares (43,100 or 70%), buckwheat on 85,500 hectares (48,100 hectares or 68%). corn on 3.809 million hectares (3.57 million hectares or 97%), and other grains and legumes on 84,400 or 91% of the target, media said.

Spring crops were sown on 311,700 hectares last week, compared to 784,700 hectares in the previous week, and 912,900 in the week before that.

Sunflower has been sown on 4.958 million hectares or 94% of the target (versus 4.605 hectares the week before), soybeans on 1.83 million hectares or 92% (1.640.9 million hectares), and sugar beet on 250,100 hectares.
