Over 1,700 flights planned between Georgia and Russia this summer season
TBILISI. May 22 (Interfax) - There are 1,761 flights planned between Georgia and Russia during the summer season from June to October this year, which is 13% of the overall number of flights to Georgia's airports, commersant.ge reported, citing Georgia's Civil Aviation Agency.
Georgian Airways, Azimut, and Red Wings are currently the three airlines that operate flights between Russia and Georgia.
There are 13,600 flights overall planned to operate from Georgia during the summer season, including 2,480 flights to Europe, or 18% of the total.
The report notes that the frequency of flights between Georgia and the Persian Gulf countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar, is increasing, with 2,255 flights planned to this area, or 17% of the total.
Direct flights between Russia and Georgia resumed after a four-year break upon the Russian presidential decision dated May 19, 2023. Russia's Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsia) in July 2023 issued permits for 284 flights per week between the cities of Russia and Georgia.
