Mishustin sets goal of ensuring Russia's place among top ten global photonics leaders
SAROV, Nizhny Novgorod region. May 20 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin hosted a conference on technological sovereignty in the field of photonics in Sarov in the Nizhny Novgorod region on Monday.
The prime minister previously familiarized himself with a related exhibition.
The conference participants included Deputy Prime Ministers Dmitry Grigorenko and Dmitry Chernyshenko, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev, and first deputy head of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Kiriyenko, who earlier headed Rosatom.
Mishustin pointed out at the conference that the national scientific and technological development strategy has been adjusted. "It's important to prepare national projects for technological sovereignty complying with its logic," he said.
A set of measures "will enable us to develop our scientific, technological, and mechanical sectors at an advanced pace," he said.
Photonics boasts substantial potential in this area, he said.
"The market for this equipment is among the most promising ones in the world," with its capacity reaching $10 billion, he said.
"Advanced photonics is also essential for developing pilotless transport, space, [...] and artificial intelligence," Mishustin said, setting the goal of ensuring that Russia is among the top ten leading countries in this sector.
